in the group?

age, race, ethnicity, and even geography?
All-in-all my advice to anyone using groups in the classroom is to:
-
Don't assume that students know how to work in groups.
-
Spend time discussing with the class what is an effective group and how
can they achieve an effective outcome with all members participating.
-
Have team members establish their expectations and sanctions BEFORE they
start.
-
Have a good idea of what you expect the outcome of the group to be.
-
Periodically monitor the progress of the group towards the goal.
-
Finish well.
