It was 20 years ago on August 1, 1982 when, WUTC-FM 88.1, the public
radio station licensed to The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga,
was started.
National Public Radio/Music 88 has been the area source for eclectic music
forms like blues, jazz and singer songwriters, plus informational programming
from NPR and Public Radio International. WUTC can also be heard live at
WUTC.org.
The radio station will begin its fall membership drive on September 16.
During the last membership drive, one of the most successful thank-you
gifts to listeners who contributed $288.10 or more was the DJ for
an Hour option, allowing them to plan, produce and announce their
own one hour radio program, according to WUTC Program Director Mark Colbert.
Each of the 80 people who have elected to do this have each developed
their own take on WUTCs musical selections. Each have had a lot
of fun and created musical programs that have expanded our radio station
sound, and for the hour, our music library,Colbert said.
Colbert invites other listeners of WUTC who plan to make a contribution
during the fall membership drive to consider the DJ for an Hour
option. We provide all the engineering, and everyone involved has
a lot of fun,Colbert said.
Programming on WUTC-FM is largely supported by membership donations of
its listeners.
