Welcome Back!
As you drive back onto campus for the start of Spring Semester, remember
to slow down on East Fifth Street where there are newly installed speed
bumps. While you are driving a little slower, take a glance at the UTC
University Center, currently undergoing an extensive renovation.
"Before the holidays, the Student Development staff took a walk-through,
and it was exciting to see the commons area taking shape. There will be
more gathering places for students, something I am sure they will enjoy,"
according to Dr. Ellen Neufeldt, Assistant Vice Chancellor & Dean
of Student Life. Decisions about finishes, carpet and wallpaper are being
made as the process at the UC continues. Scheduled completion for the
renovation on the building is August, 2003 for the PHASED-IN renovation.
The UTC Engineering Building is 80% complete, according to Doug Silver,
Associate Director of Facility Planning and Management.
"The East Building is getting the finishing touches, which should
allow 99% completion by the end of February. The West Building is getting
sheet rock and brick around the outside windows," Silver said. The
entire project is scheduled for completion in May, 2003.
Other ongoing projects include the office re-design of Race and Hooper
Halls. Asbestos abatement is complete in Race, and construction has begun
so that offices can be reconfigured. Design has just begun for Hooper
Hall, according to Silver.
New roofs have recently been added to Hunter, Guerry, Cadek and Metro
buildings. A new roof has also been approved for Grote Hall.
We hope all those returning to campus had a restful break. All first-time
freshman in Fall, 2003 are reminded that February 1, 2003, is the priority
deadline for scholarships. Students must have their admissions application
file completed, including high school transcript, ACT/SAT scores, UTC
admissions application and $25 application fee. Visit our Scholarship
page for more information.
Best wishes for a successful academic new year!
