Student Alliance Offers Voter Information Forum
The Black Student Alliance will host a Voter Information Forum at 6 p.m.
on Jan. 28 in the Raccoon Mountain Room of the University Center. The
forum will feature a panel of students, professors and community leaders
who will discuss political issues and the 2004 presidential election.
“We hope to inspire people to vote intellectually,” said
Nikki Jones, BSA president.
The BSA promotes diligence, academic excellence and the exchange of ideas
between “students of color,” according to Jones. The student
organization recently changed its name from the Black Student Association
after its leaders broadened their focus on campus.
“Our goals, ambitions and progressiveness were targeted toward
embracing each African-American club and/or fraternity and sorority,” Jones
said. “We are an alliance because, along with our other affiliates,
we are united in a common aspiration to maintain brotherhood on a campus
where we are not identified as the majority, but the minority.”
BSA meets the second and fourth Thursday of each month at 6 p.m. in the
Signal Mountain room of the UC. Students interested in joining the organization
can attend a meeting or e-mail Jones.
