Transfer Students Get Additional Assistance
Stephanie Orr works for UTC as an admissions counselor, but these
days her job is taking her off-campus for four days a week to Cleveland
State and Chattanooga State in an effort to ease the transition
for students at those institutions who want to transfer to UTC.
"Stephanie will provide helpful information about UTC requirements
for students at both community colleges, with the ultimate goal
of allowing students with an associate’s degree to be accepted
at UTC as juniors," according to Yancy Freeman, UTC Director
of Admissions and Recruitment.
The state Board of Regents approves programs for the state’s
community colleges, while The University of Tennessee Board of Trustees
oversees programs for UTC.
UTC junior Chessia Cox of Athens, TN transferred from Cleveland
State last fall. She acknowledges that the process of moving from
a two-year college to a four-year school can be difficult.
"After some initial problems, I was very happy with the way
UTC worked with me to get me started at the University," Cox
said. The Phi Theta
Kappa scholarship recipient recently helped her sister, Candra,
fill out a transfer application from Cleveland State to UTC.
In fall, 2002 a total of 617 transfer students come to UTC, with
56 students coming from Cleveland State and 206 transferring from
Chattanooga State.
