UTC Hosts TAIE for the First Time

UTC recently hosted The Tennessee Association of International Educators (TAIE) for its annual state meeting. TAIE is the state group under the National Association of Foreign Student Advisors (NAFSA). Nancy Amberson, coordinator of Foreign Student Services, serves as Secretary/treasurer and local arrangement coordinator for the state organization. She says 31 state institutions participated in the event.

“Through TAIE, smaller institutions and all institutions who suffer from travel cuts have an opportunity to participate in the state meeting to learn about changes in the immigration laws and attend information sessions,” Amberson said.

Participants attended sessions that addressed:

• English as a Second Language
• Campus Event Planning
• International Orientation Planning
• Co-Op Grant Writing
• A local law firm also offered a session on legal issues faced by international advisors and students
