Stacy accepts position at The Baylor School

Chancellor Bill Stacy has resigned to accept appointment as headmaster of The Baylor School, Chattanooga.

“Coming to Chattanooga seven years ago was a bit of a homecoming, and this opportunity brings my career full circle. I started as a teacher in secondary education, and then spent many years preparing teachers,” Stacy said.

Outgoing Interim President Joe Johnson said incoming UT President John Peterson will soon be naming an interim chancellor, and a search committee will be organized to find a replacement for Stacy. The process could take up to a year to complete.

“We will miss Bill’s enthusiasm for pursuing endeavors that others think are impossible and his passion for making UTC an integral part of the lives of the citizens of Chattanooga,” Johnson said.

Zan Guerry, head of the Baylor search committee said, “There is nothing like a proven person, and he is proven at UTC. Here is an individual we know and we can count on.”

Stacy will replace former headmaster Jim Buckheit, who announced his resignation in January, accepting an offer to become the headmaster of a school in Los Angeles. Stacy compared the new appointment to his UTC experience. He said it would be “a similar challenge to help guide the preparation of young leaders, but different in exciting ways that will allow me to learn again what young people face and seek to learn how best to structure their learning environment and experiences.”
