Chemistry
students awarded at SERMACS Regional Meeting
Three chemistry students
who completed summer research were awarded for their poster
presentations at the 56th Southeast
Regional Meeting of the American Chemical Society (SERMACS)
in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina.
Weinan Chen, student of Dr. Greg Grant, won first place in the
Inorganic Division for “Preparation of Corners of a
Self-assembled Molecular Cube using Trivalent Group 9 Metal Complexes.”
Erika M. Milczek , student of Dr. Kyle S. Knight, won second place
in the Organic Poster Session for “Studies Toward the Enantioselective
Dehalogenation of Secondary Alkyl Halides.”
Kira D. Shurtz, student of Dr. Gretchen E. Potts, won third place
in the Analytical Poster Session for “Analysis of Toxic Metals
in Lentinus edodes by Atomic Absorption, Flame Emission and Inductively-Coupled
Plasma - Atomic Emission Spectroscopy.”
A total of fourteen undergraduate students presented their work at
the SERMACS meeting. Dr. Greg Grant also presented.
