Author
of “Discovering Eve” to Speak at UTC
Author Carol Meyers, who wrote Discovering Eve, a landmark
study of women in ancient Israel, will be speaking at UTC on Sunday,
March 16 at 8 p.m. in the Roland Hayes Concert Hall, UTC Fine Arts
Center. Her topic is "Discovering Eve: Eden, Archaeology and
Women’s Roles."
Meyers holds the Mary Grace Wilson Professorship in Religion at
Duke University. She is a specialist in biblical studies and archaeology,
and she has a strong scholarly interest in the everyday life of
women in biblical times.
Meyers was educated at Wellesley and Brandeis Universities, and
she received her Ph.D. in Near Eastern and Judaic Studies at Brandeis.
She has written or co-authored eight books, and she has edited or
co-edited five books. She has published a recent reference work,
Women in Scripture, the most comprehensive study ever made of women
in Jewish and Christian scriptures.
The lecture is sponsored by The American Schools of Oriental Research
and The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.
