Chancellor Bill Stacy has been named 2002 Chattanooga Area Manager of
the Year by a group of business, education and professional organizations.
Stacy , who was named chancellor in 1997, is the 17th recipient of the
local award that recognizes business and community leadership
The selection committee commented on Stacys ability to position
UTC as a vital academic, intellectual and pivotal planning force for strategic
change within the Chattanooga area.
Committee members also noted that Stacy has led the University into the
largest facilities growth in its history, with highlights including the
new engineering, math and computer science building, $100 million in new
residence halls currently under construction and the University Center
expansion.
With Stacy's leadership, UTC has engaged in outreach initiatives and partnerships,
including two new downtown elementary schools to improve the quality of
education in Hamilton County.
Stacy's community affiliations include Allied Arts of Greater Chattanooga,
First Things First, Chattanooga Area Chamber of Commerce, RiverCity Co.,
Tennessee Aquarium, United Way, Walden Club and Chattanooga Police Foundation
Inc.
