UTC’s Lupton Library is showcasing its technology assets and enhanced library services with a community celebration January 21-23.

Highlighting the events are demonstrations of key electronic databases, the library materials self-check station, the Windows-based ILLIAD interlibrary loan system, and the redesigned library web site.

The Lupton Library staff kicks off the three-day celebration with question-and-answer demonstrations to showcase new technology and services for the UTC campus. The sessions are open to all students, faculty and staff who want to see and experience all the library has to offer.

Topping off the celebration, Lupton Library will host a catered reception on Thursday, January 23, from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m. in the Fellowship of Southern Writers Archives. The entire campus is invited to enjoy this introduction to new technology in the library.

Adding to the excitement are 60 new IBM computer workstations scattered among each of the library’s three floors. Eighteen new wireless computers, a joint venture with the Center of Excellence for Computer Applications, will be available for patron use in searching the Internet and word processing. Patrons with personal laptops will also find plug-in ports marked for ease of use in study areas throughout the library.

Prizes will be awarded daily to some lucky folks (must be present to win). A grand prize drawing will be held during the reception. Grand prize giveaways include a DVD player, a George Foreman grill, and three pairs of UTC Athletics tickets.
