Mary Stewart Van Leeuwen to Deliver C. S. Lewis Lecture

Mary Stewart Van Leeuwen will present the 22nd Annual C.S. Lewis Lecture “The Anti-Reductionist Reductionist: C.S. Lewis, Science, & Gender Relations. ” The lecture will be held Monday, March 29, at 7:30 p.m. in the Benwood Auditorium in the Engineering, Math and Computer Science Building at UTC, corner of Vine and Palmetto. Admission is free, and the public is invited.

Van Leeuwen comes to Chattanooga from the Philadelphia area, where she is professor of psychology and philosophy, Resident Scholar, Hestenes Center for Christian Women in Leadership, at Eastern University in St. Davids, Pennsylvania.

Her ten books include My Brother’s Keeper: What the Social Sciences Do (and Don’t) Tell Us About Masculinity ; Gender and Grace: Love, Work, and Parenting in a Changing World; The Person in Psychology: A Contemporary Christian Appraisal; and The Sorcerer’s Apprentice: A Christian Looks at the Changing Face of Psychology.

She has contributed articles to Christianity Today, The Reformed Journal, Radix, Transformation, The Door, Prism, The Christian Century, Books & Culture, Priscilla Papers, Soujourners, and The Chronicle of Higher Education.

A native of London, Ontario, Canada, she earned a B.A. from Queen’s University in Ontario, and an M.A. and Ph.D. from Northwestern University in Illinois. She and her husband have two sons. She is an elder of Trinity Christian Reformed Church in Broomall, Pennsylvania.
