Industrial
Engineering Student Chapter wins national award
Congratulations to the Industrial Engineering Student Chapter at
UTC, which has garnered national recognition with the Gold Award
from the Institute of Industrial
Engineers (IIE), honoring student
achievement during the 2003-2004 academic year.
The Institute of Industrial Engineers (IIE) Student Chapter at
UTC is
the premier organized campus chapter. It was founded in September
2003. Dr. Neslihan Alp has served as the faculty advisor of the
IIE Student Chapter since its inception.
“The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga is the only university
from Tennessee that has received the Gold Award," Alp said. “This
award shows how UTC students are willing to help each other and
serve their community. Their willingness, hard work, commitment,
and team work brought this important and prestigious award to UTC.
I would like to congratulate all IIE Student Chapter
members for their big success.”
Students visited high schools to increase awareness about the Industrial
Engineering major; organized a fund-raising activity "Silent
Auction" with Warehouse Row and received support from 20 companies,
raising nearly $500; participated in the Horizon festival organized
by all engineering and computer science student chapters at UTC
to bring the high school students to campus; participated in the
IIE Southeast Student Chapter Conference at NC State in Raleigh;
organized a joint meeting with the local IIE Chapter to discuss
the Industrial Engineering major at UTC and provided a tour of
the new College of Engineering and Computer Science building; organized
an alumni dinner to show them the new College of Engineering and
Computer Science building; published two newsletters and distributed
them to all chapter members, faculty, and alumni.
