New UTC Partnership Benefits Habitat for Humanity
The newest local Habitat for Humanity campus chapter at UTC is
partnering with the oldest local campus chapter at Baylor School
to build a new family home in Shepherd Park, a Habitat subdivision
near the Chattanooga Metropolitan Airport.
Nathan Frick, UTC Habitat chapter president, has been involved in
World Changers, a Southern Baptist Convention summer ministry that
assigns participants to rehabilitate substandard housing. Frick
was not able to work with World Changers last summer, and so he
redirected his efforts and began to work with Habitat for Humanity.
On his own initiative, Frick started the UTC chapter from the ground
up.
Baylor and UTC will split the $45,000 cost of the house, and all
the labor on the house will be done by students. "UTC has been
very fortunate to receive a $12,000 matching grant, leaving $10,500
to be raised," according to Alicia Arney, Assistant Director
of Alumni Affairs at UTC.
The house is expected to be completed by the end of UTC’s
spring semester.
Tax deductible donation checks, made payable to Habitat for Humanity
(memorandum line - UTC House), may be sent to the UTC Alumni Office,
801 Oak Street, Dept. 6506, c/o Alicia Arney.
If you are interested in helping build the house, volunteers are
scheduled by emailing Nathan
Frick or by calling 425-8701.
Your support is needed and appreciated. "Everyone deserves
a warm place to sleep at night. We need your help to eliminate substandard
housing," Arney said.
