FBI scientist to discuss forensic chemistry

Pamela Reynolds, an FBI scientist from Quanitico, Virginia will discuss her work in forensic chemistry on Wednesday, October 20 at 5 p.m. in Grote 129 on the UTC campus.

Reynolds will provide a look into this popular field with a PowerPoint presentation, which includes:

• Forensic science is the application of science to matters of the law. Forensic chemistry is using chemistry principles and theories toward the analysis of evidence.
• Evidence can support or contradict accounts by witnesses or suspects; can provide general leads for investigators; link suspects to places, persons or things related to a crime, or provide information for reconstruction a crime for a jury.
• Along with the FBI, it may surprise you to know that there are also forensic labs run by:
  
  Drug Enforcement Administration
  U.S. Customs Service
  Food and Drug Administration
  U.S. Postal Inspection
  Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives
  Fish and Wildlife
  Secret Service.
