University Begins New Doctoral Program Process
The UTC Faculty Senate recently voted 20-5 to approve a new doctoral
program in educational leadership.
"This is the first step; approval must also be given by UT Board
of Trustees, The Tennessee Higher Education Commission (THEC) and Southern
Association
of Colleges and Schools (SACS),” according to Chuck Cantrell, spokesman
for the University.
According to Dr. Mary Tanner, Dean of the College of Education, the program
offers an opportunity for professionals for midcareer study.
Startup funds for the program will be paid through a $300,000 grant from
the University of Chattanooga Foundation, and the program has the potential
to earn up to $200,000 annually. According to Provost John Friedl, funds
generated by the program will improve the university’s academic
budget, which in turn could enhance other programs.
The University offers a doctorate degree in physical therapy, and a doctoral
program in computational engineering awaits approval from THEC and SACS.
