At a time when some corporations are better known for their corporate
malfeasance and scandal than their products and performance, one company
is stepping up to make a big difference in the lives of a group of economically
disadvantaged Chattanooga youth.
The FranklinCovey Company, a leader in the corporate and individual effectiveness
field, has partnered with the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga,
the Southeast Tennessee Workforce Investment Board, The Front Porch Alliance
and the Chattanooga Area Chamber of Commerce to offer a summer enrichment
program for youth from several urban schools. This project is funded by
the Southeast Tennessee Workforce Investment Board under resources made
available through the Workforce Investment Act of 1998.
The FranklinCovey Company, distributor of the best-selling The 7 Habits
of Highly Effective People, has provided copies of the follow-up book,
The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens, for use in the camp. Tom
Hewlett with FranklinCovey visited Chattanooga and lead the participants
in discussions about the book on the topics of motivation, setting goals,
time management, and effective listening.
The author of The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens,Sean Covey
said he wrote the book "because life for teens is no longer a playground.
It's a jungle out there. And if I've done my job right, this book can
be like a compass to help you navigate through it." Covey also covers
self-image, ways for teens to build friendships, resist peer pressure,
get along with their parents and more.
