Lupton
Library Special Collections to Feature Civil War Exhibit
Chattanooga Civil War documents, a Union soldier’s cap,
an officer’s
sash and
epaulettes will be among the items displayed in a new exhibit in Special
Collections of the Lupton Library on the UTC campus. “A Nation
Divided: An Exhibit of Civil War Items” will observe the 140th
anniversary of the Civil War battle of Chickamauga during Tennessee Archives
Week. The exhibit will run from Wednesday, October 15-Friday, October
31.
“Also included in the exhibit will be war time letters from Union
General John
T. Wilder; General Nathan Bedford Forrest’s Cavalry reunion medals;
a
copy of the Civil War-era newspaper The Chattanooga Daily Rebel;
illustrations of Chattanooga and Tennessee battles and battle sites from
magazines and newspapers such as Harper’s Weekly; rare carte de
visit
photographs of Confederate officers; and facsimiles of Robert E. Lee
letters
and his surrender document,” according to Steve Cox, Special Collections
Librarian.
View the exhibit in room 205 of the Lupton Library from 1p.m.- 5 p.m.
weekdays, with special times on Saturday, October 25, 10a.m.-1p.m., Sunday,
October 26 from 2p.m.- 4p.m., and Monday, October 27 from 5 p.m.-7 p.m.
