and Beat Hunger
Get into the spirit of the holidays by attending “Beat Hunger”—an
amazing annual event that includes a variety of music written to
feature percussion instruments, and expertly performed by the UTC
Percussion Ensemble. This concert benefits the Chattanooga Community
Kitchen on Monday, November 22, 7:30 p.m. in the Roland Hayes Concert
Hall, UTC Fine Arts Center at the corner of Vine and Palmetto.
Dr. Monte Coulter, director, asks that you donate two non-perishable
food items or a $2.00 check to the Chattanooga Community Kitchen.
No cash donations may be accepted on campus.
Special guest conductor will be Maestro Jooyong Ahn, director of
orchestras, new to the University this semester. He has performed
with major orchestras around the world at many notable music venues,
including New York’s Carnegie and Avery Fischer Halls and
Philadelphia’s Academy Hall.
To better get into the spirit of “Beat Hunger,” Coulter
has put new lyrics to Roy Orbison's classic, “Pretty Woman.”
He calls it “Feeding People.” Go ahead, sing it in your
head or aloud:
(verse 1)
Feeding people-All it takes is you,
Feeding people-It's what we're going to do
Feeding people...
You get so hungry, out on the street,
And it's that hunger we'll defeat.
("whump-a whump-a whump-a")
(verse 2)
Feeding people-gather all your crumbs
Feeding people-to the sound of drums
Feeding people…
They'll play it clean and they'll play it right
They sound like thunder in the night
(BRIDGE)
Hungry people cannot stand,
Think or work or use their hands
Bring your boxes, bags and cans to meeeee…
Hungry ones in this old town
With no warm place to lie down
Searching hard for one more ca---lorieeeee…
(TRANSITION)
'Cause they need you, come to the Hayes
How many dinners can we all raaa-aa-ise!!!
("whump - whump-a whump-a")
FEEDING PEOPLE!!!
