UTC
Sexual Assault Awareness Week
"The date that lasts a lifetime: Men and Women as Partners
Preventing Rape" will be presented by Dr. LuoLuo Hong on Wednesday,
April 2, 9 p.m. at the amphitheater next to the UTC Fine Arts Building
as part of UTC Sexual Assault Awareness Week.
Hong is the Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean
of Students at Shepard College in West Virginia. She is a trained
educator with more than 13 years experience in the fields of adolescent,
college and community health. Hong holds a BA in Psychology, a Master’s
Degree in Public Health from Yale, and the Ph.D. in Educational
Leadership and Research from Louisiana State University.
Take Back the Night Candlelight March and Rally will be held immediately
following Hong’s presentation.
"A woman's chances of facing a sexual assault increases dramatically
during the time she is in college. An average college female has
a one in four chance of being raped or assaulted while in college.
The best prevention of sexual assault is education—this means
education for both men and women. Without the events of sexual assault
awareness week, most students on
campus would not have the opportunity to learn about sexual assault
prevention or recovery," according to Mandy Morgan of the UTC
Women's Action Council.
Sponsors of this event include the UTC Student Programming Committee,
UTC Student Government Association, UTC Women’s Action Council,
UTC Housing, UTC Panhellenic, Violence Against Women on College
Campuses Grant and the UTC School of Social and Community Services.
