Luckey Receives ASWA Scholarship

UTC accounting major Elizabeth Luckey has received the American Society of Women Accountants (ASWA) national scholarship, the second UTC accounting student in the last two years two receive this award.

"This is remarkable, since there are 100 applicants and only 10 to 12 national scholarships are awarded each year," according to Dr. Kaye F. McClung, associate professor and head of the Department of Accounting and Finance in the UTC College of Business Administration.

ASWA was founded in 1938 to increase the opportunities for women in all fields of accounting and finance. ASWA currently has over 6,000 members in over 100 chapters across the United States. Membership has been open to men since 1974. ASWA members work at all levels of the accounting profession, including individual practitioners, entry to upper level positions in industry and government, and junior accountants to partners in major accounting firms. ASWA members can be found throughout the economy from academia and government to the private and public sectors. Most members have attained professional certifications such as CPA, CMA, CIA, and CFP.

To be considered for the ASWA scholarship, Luckey had to have part-time or full-time student status in pursuit of a bachelor’s or master’s degree in accounting; a minimum of 60 semester hours completed,and attend an accredited college or university. The scholarship committee considers career goals and communication skills, financial need and circumstances, scholastic achievement, and other activities and interests.
