Symposium
to Focus on Air and Water Quality
The 2nd annual Public Interest Environmental Symposium 2003, "Sustaining
Air and Water Resources," sponsored by the UTC Biological and
Environmental Sciences Department and the Chattanooga Environmental
Education Alliance will be held at the Read House on May 15 and
16, featuring a mix of formal presentations, poster sessions, and
interactive breakout discussions about air and water quality issues
.
Invited speakers include representatives from the Environmental
Protection Agency, the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation,
TVA, American Lung Association, City of Chattanooga, American Rivers,
and Forest Watch.
"One of our goals is to draw a diverse group of participants,
so we welcome anyone interested in regional environmental issues
to register and attend," according to Dawn Ford, assistant
professor of Biological and Environmental Sciences at UTC.
The goals of this year's symposium include:
- Assessing the condition of regional and local air and water
resources
- Developing approaches to sustain air and water resources
- Bringing together professionals with different backgrounds
to find solutions
- Producing a white paper detailing the findings of symposium
participants
