Increase Requested for Tennessee Higher Education in 2001
As the Tennessee Higher Education Commission late last week recommended that $1.3 billion be given to state universities in the 2001 state budget, five UTC maintenance and improvement projects were included.
According to a story in the Chattanooga Times-Free Press, no new UTC construction was added to the list. Chancellor Bill Stacy said that was okay, however, considering the new engineering building was recently funded.
The $1.3 billion request for higher education represents a 24.3 percent increase over current year state funding.
