Campus Scene What's going on this month? Dr. Mebane Named Grote Professor The Department of Chemistry announces the appointment of Dr. Rob Mebane to the Nita Tansey Grote Professor of Chemistry. Mebane joined the UTC faculty in 1983 and was named to a UC Foundation Professorship in 1992. The Nita Tansey Grote Professor of Chemistry was established in 1986 along with the Irvine W. Grote Professor of Chemistry to honor the memory of Dr. and Mrs. Irvine W. Grote. Dr. Grote was a member of the chemistry faculty from 1931 to 1969 and served as head of the department for 24 years. Mrs. Grote was active in many facets of campus life. This professorship is to be awarded to a senior member of the chemistry faculty in recognition of outstanding service to the department and the university.
