Men's basketball

The UTC Basketball Mocs are entering Southern Conference competition after warming up with such tough opponents as Florida and Kentucky.

Head Coach John Shulman discussed the team in a pre-season interview.

“I like our mix (of youth inside and depth at the perimeter), said Shulman.  “If you’re going to be young, you had better be young inside not outside.  On the perimeter we’ve got great experience and then with the addition of some recruits, I think we have a shot to be a lot better on the perimeter than last year.”

Women’s basketball

After defeating Eastern Kentucky 81-52 in the final game of the 2006 Courtyard Classic, the Lady Mocs Basketball Team began the Paradise Classic in Hawaii with a 4-4 record.

“This team has experience winning. They know how to be successful. We’ll have to shuffle some players around, but we’ve told them that it’s their time to step up,” said Head Coach Wes Moore in a pre-season interview.

Wrestling

Four UTC wrestlers, Javier Maldonado, Matt Keller, Michael Keefe and Seth Garvin
advanced to the quarterfinals of the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational.  Keller was named the Southern Conference Wrestler of the Week, after going undefeated in five matches to claim the 133-pound bracket at the prestigious Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational.

“Matt did what he had to do to put himself in contention for a national title,” UTC Head Coach Chris Bono said. “He has helped put Chattanooga on the map. Overall, I thought our team performed real well. But what counts is March. We still have a lot we can improve on, but I am pleased with our performance.”
