Alumni participate in Homecoming 2006 and 50-Plus Reunion

It was a time to reunite with friends and marvel at the changes on campus when more than 65 University of Chattanooga alumni came back to Chattanooga’s University for the 50-Plus Reunion weekend.  Participants enjoyed a luncheon in the University Center, tailgating in the First Tennessee Pavilion, and the homecoming football game against Appalachian State.

A special ceremony was held to honor the Class of 1956 as it was inducted into the 50-Plus Club; Harriett Smitherman Harris, Class of 1956, gave the class response.  The Class of 1946 was also honored during the annual Patten Chapel ceremony.

The Class of 1956 held its 50th reunion dinner at The Chattanooga Golf and Country Club.  Jim Lynch, President of the UC Class of 1956, served as emcee.  James “Buddy” Hodge, University of Chattanooga Class of 1948 and long time Las Vegas performer, provided entertainment by singing Frank Sinatra hits.

Plans are now being made for the Class of 1957 fifty-year reunion.  Class members who are interested in serving on next year’s reunion committee are encouraged to contact the alumni office at 423/425-4785.

Breakfast with the Chancellor at TVA and Memorial Hospital

The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga Alumni Board of Directors recently hosted “Breakfast with the Chancellor” at TVA and Memorial Hospital.

UTC alums who are employed by TVA, and UTC department representatives from The College of Business, The SimCenter, The Graduate School, The College of Engineering, and the UTC Placement Center gathered at the downtown TVA complex.  Chancellor Roger Brown provided a campus update and Diane Bunch, TVA Senior Vice President and UTC alum, also addressed the group.  Following the program, TVA presented a check to the College of Engineering.

UTC alumni employed at Memorial Hospital were also recognized at a breakfast held at The Chattanooga Heart Institute.  Chancellor Brown thanked Memorial Hospital for the support given to The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and recognized the ways in which the hospital partners with the University.  Ruth Brinkley, President and CEO of Memorial Hospital and former chair of the UTC Chancellor’s Roundtable, also spoke to the group.  Departments represented at the Memorial Hospital breakfast included the Physical Therapy, School of Nursing, The College of Business, The Graduate School, and the UTC Placement Office.  David Fussell, UTC Alumni Board President, hosted these events.

Corporate breakfasts at companies employing UTC alumni provide a unique opportunity to identify alumni and to spotlight the university and the many ways in which UTC partners with the community.  To learn more about the Breakfast with the Chancellor program, please call the UTC Alumni Office at 423/425-4785.
