Bucky Wolford Joe & Barbara Waters

Bucky Wolford, Joe and Barbara Waters were honored at Legends and Leaders Dinner

Bucky Wolford, President and CEO of Wolford Development, Inc., was named Distinguished Alumnus and Joe and Barbara Waters received the Outstanding Service Award at the UTC Alumni Board’s 2005 Legends and Leaders event, held recently at the Chattanooga Golf & Country Club Ballroom.

The Distinguished Alumnus Award was established in 1969 by the UTC Alumni Council to recognize alumni who have made significant contributions to the community and society, and whose accomplishments and career activities have “reflected glory on the University.” The Distinguished Alumni Award is the highest award bestowed upon an alumnus/alumna of Chattanooga’s University.

Wolford has given years of service to UTC athletics, academics, and alumni programs. He serves on the UT Board of Trustees and on the University of Chattanooga Foundation. Bucky is a member of the UTC Athletics Hall of Fame as well as being the recipient of the Joe Morrison Award. He has also been named to the College of Business Entrepreneurship Hall of Fame.

A 1969 graduate, Wolford was a member of Blue Key Society, captain of the UC Football Team, and a cadet commander in ROTC. After serving in the US Army as a 2 nd Lieutenant, Wolford was honorably discharged to Retired Reserve. He has served as Tennessee State Director of the International Council of Shopping Centers, and he is currently a member of the organization. He has also served on the board of Boy Scouts of America Cherokee Area Council.

Wolford and his wife, Diane, are the parents of two sons, Clint and Chad.

The Outstanding Service Award was established in 1985 by the UTC Alumni Council to honor an individual who has given outstanding service to the University and community.

Joe and Barbara Waters received the Outstanding Service Award. They have been strong supporters of women’s athletic programs at UTC for almost 30 years. The two avid fans travel with the teams, even if overnight and weekend trips are required.

The Waters’ support of men’s and women’s athletic teams is greatly appreciated by the University. The couple established the Joe and Barbara Waters Trust for Athletics, to fund scholarships for five sports and to provide support for other athletic needs. Mr. Waters serves on the UC Foundation and both are in the Mocs Club, Quarterback Club and the RBI Club. Both were recipients of the Gordon Davenport Award in 1999 – given for outstanding commitment to UTC Mocs Athletics.
