
The UTC Alumni Board and Alumni Office invited students, faculty and staff to meet Dan Beery, UTC’s first Olympic gold medalist. Beery was a member of the 2004 Men's Olympic Rowing Team. UTC alumni in Atlanta are planning events to build friendships and support the University:
January 22, 2005 join other UTC alumni in Atlanta as they board a bus and come to see the Mocs take on ETSU in a 2 p.m. for an afternoon game at McKenzie Arena. Price will be $25 per person, which will include snacks on the bus, a general admission ticket to the game and lunch with Interim Chancellor Fred Obear and his wife Ruth. The group will meet at 9:15 a.m. at the Galleria Mall at Jocks and Jills in Atlanta. The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga Interim Chancellor Frederick W. Obear has announced that $1.8 million in federal support has been awarded to the campus.
“These dollars provide significant funding to several critical partnership efforts between this campus and this region,” said Obear. “We are very thankful for the efforts of Congressman Zach Wamp, who has been a faithful and effective friend of this campus. In its first year recruiting students, The UT SimCenter at Chattanooga has enrolled 15 students in its innovative cross-disciplinary Ph.D. program in Computational Engineering.

A grant from a private source, The Wright Bentley Foundation, has allowed the College of Business to establish Provost Scholarships. These scholarships will be awarded to undergraduate business students who will be expected to maintain a 3.0 GPA. John Shulman could have gone on to the riches of the Southeastern Conference.

The Chattanooga men’s and women’s cross country teams swept the Southern Conference Championships at the Furman Golf Course in Spartanburg, S.C., with both teams claiming individual titles and placing four runners in top 10.
