Student Profile - Sara Beth Seay

"I've known since I was eight years old that I want to be a teacher. Back then I wanted to know everything, or at least more than anybody else about any given subject. Somewhere between eight and eighteen, though, I lost that intellectual curiosity, a trait which is even more important in a teacher than patience. The University Honors Program has awakened in me that passion for learning by presenting me with a whole new world of ideas and books, as well as a forum in which I could discuss these things with my peers and professors. I have learned to love learning more than knowing, and I believe that my passion will make me not only 'highly qualified,' but also a force for change both in and out of the classroom."

Sara Beth is an English and secondary education major from Springfield, TN. She is active with the UHON Council Recruitment Committee and has served on the "A Team" of the Undergraduate Admissions Office to assist with campus tours and other recruitment activities. She served as a counselor with the TN Governor's School for Prospective Teachers in summer 2004, and works as a tutor in UTC's Writing Center, helping students with writing assignments in various university courses. She was awarded the 2004-2005 Mario and Grace Charles Foundation Scholarship for Outstanding Education Students.
