Benefits of UHON Membership

All full members of the UHON Program who are in good standing will receive the following benefits:

  • Consideration for one of the major University Honors Scholarships, including the William E. Brock, Jr. Scholarship, the Paul Koblentz Scholarship, and the Robert M. "Bobbie" Yates Scholarship. Approximately 20 new UHON freshmen per year are awarded one of these scholarships.
  • Priority registration for classes
  • Opportunity to live in an honors-only section of on-campus housing
  • Intensive personal academic advisement and guidance
  • Enhanced library borrowing privileges
  • 24-hour access to the University Honors Reading Room and computer lab
  • Annual cultural stipend to attend selected symphony, opera, cinema and theatre performances
  • Opportunities to attend and make presentations at academic and professional conferences around the country, including the National Collegiate Honors Council conference
  • Opportunities to travel for academic credit with other honors students and faculty
  • Employment opportunities, including UHON Student Research Assistantships with faculty in a variety of academic disciplines

Maintenance Requirements

To remain in good standing in the UHON Program and to remain eligible for the benefits listed above, each UHON student must do the following:

  • Maintain a 3.5 cumulative GPA
  • Make at least 24 hours progress towards graduation each academic year
  • Make reasonable progress toward completion of the UHON curriculum, as determined by the UHON Program advisor
  • Register for and attend the appropriate honors studies course (UHON 100, 200, 300 or 400) each fall and spring semester
  • Apply and register for two semesters (4 hrs. total) departmental honors in the senior year
  • Serve on at least one committee of the UHON Council each semester
  • Abide by the rules of conduct for all UTC students set forth in the UTC Student Handbook
  • Abide by all rules for UHON students as determined by the UHON Program staff and Council, and detailed in the UHON Handbook
