University Center Sustainability Efforts
- In a recent survey conducted by the University Center, 79.2% of the surveyed students indicated that saving the planet through recycling and keeping items out of landfills is important.
- The University Center provides easy access to multiple stations where paper, aluminum and plastic may be recycled. This recycling system is made possible through a partnership with Orange Grove Center, which is a local non-profit organization that employs persons with developmental disabilities.
- A recent UC renovation, funded by the Student Green Fee, is a sustainable, porcelain floor (EcoCycle tile) made by Crossville, Inc. These tiles are made from recycled materials and in a manner that minimizes the amount of waste put into landfills.
- The UC has added bottle filling stations at the water-fountains next to the Commons restrooms and next to the restrooms on the 1st floor. The stations were provided by the Environmental Task Force and funded through the Student Green Fee.
