Student Support Services/Project Focus
Responsibility of Student Support Services
SSS is expected to:
- Provide an environment that is conducive to learning.
- Explain policies and procedures to program participants.
- Ensure effective academic support and fair treatment to all participants.
- Provide well-trained staff (including student workers) and current technical resources (computer hardware and software, texts, manuals, guides, adaptive equipment, and other program resources).
- Accommodate participants in all reasonable fashions--i.e.., by keeping labs open during weekday evenings, by providing competent peer tutors, by maintaining equipment--ensuring students complete their class work effectively. SSS will not, however, do the work for a participant.
- Track academic progress of participants.
- Assure staff members are accessible during regular office hours.
- Provide advocacy on behalf of participants.
- Ensure all program services and activities are assessable to all participants regardless of disability status.
