UTC Student Health Center Services

All students who are enrolled in courses at UTC shall have access to the Student Health Services. Those services which are available include basic primary care, referral counseling and psychological services, immunizations, allergy clinic, health education, simple laboratory services and specialties such as Sports Medicine, Gynecology/Family Planning and an International Travel Clinic.

With the initiation of the student health fee, some services are offered to all students at no cost. Visit the Fees for Services page for more information.

Administration of Medicine for Pain Control, Infection or Inflammation

At times students will require medication for pain control, inflammation or infection. The administration of the medication will be through the Student Health Center.

Physical Exams

The center will provide physical exams for the following departments: the School of Nursing, Teacher Education, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy and the Athletic Training Programs. In addition, the center will provide physical exams to any student who needs one. The student will be responsible for the cost of this exam.

If the student requires a physical exam either for participation in a program offered by UTC or for employment, the cost of the exam will be $35. If lab is required, either on site or if an outside lab is required, the student will pay for those costs. If a patient also desires birth control, or requires a prescription, these can be taken to a local pharmacy.

Health Education

In conjunction with other departments through out the university, the health center and the SON will coordinate the University Wide Health Fair. In addition, a website which will be coordinated by the SON and the Student Health Center which will provide the latest information regarding health and wellness. All departments which have a health and wellness focus will be asked to help in the maintenance of this site. Topics included but not limited to include: allergies – seasonal and inhalant, drugs and alcohol, counseling, women’s health, men’s health, sports health, general wellness, STD information, immunizations, travel health, nutrition, clinic hours of operation, cost of services provided, and timely topics of interest (i.e Gardasil).

An individual from the health center will be present for new student orientation, and other university designated events as agreed upon.

HIV Testing

On the 4th Thursday of each month from 1pm til 3pm, the Hamilton County Health Dept comes here to the Student Health Center and performs FREE HIV testing.

Immunizations

The health center will house all immunization records along with results of physical exams required for attendance in university programs, and TB skin test results. The center will provide standard immunizations which are required for attendance at the University. These will be billed to the student. In the event the student can not pay for the immunization, he/she will be referred to the Chattanooga Hamilton County Health Department to be immunized. If there is a question of immunity, the health center may draw a titer at the student’s request. The cost of this test will be the student’s responsibility.

Lab

The center will provide a minimum proficiency CLIA-waived lab. Any lab work that is required for the continuation of patient care will be sent to a local lab for processing. Either of these tests will be the student’s responsibility.

Mental Health

The health center will work in conjunction with the Office of Counseling and Career Planning or other outside mental health or counseling resources.  The health center provider will review the evaluation from the counseling center. Based on these recommendations and a complete evaluation of the student, the provider will develop a plan of care. If this plan is outside the scope of practice of the provider, an appropriate referral will be initiated. HIPPA approved communication will be conducted with the Counseling Center.
