Referrals
Many insurance programs require referrals from our office before their members can be seen by other specialists or can receive services like physical therapy or special x-rays. To help the process go smoothly, please note the following:
- It takes several days to get a referral approved by the insurance company and scheduled. This process is beyond our control. Please do not expect referrals to be done the same day of request.
- First-time referrals or referrals for new problems require you make an appointment with your doctor to discuss these referrals. These will not be done over the phone.
- Referrals to another office are only good for a limited time. Before keeping a follow-up appointment at that office, you must call THEM several days before the appointment to see whether your referral is still valid or if you need to have a new one from our office. Do not wait until the day of your appointment to call our office. Your appointment will have to be rescheduled until a new referral can be processed.
- We must receive records from the specialist before a second referral will be processed. Please ask the specialist to send our office records noting your progress.
Records Requests
UTFP uses an outside service to copy requested records which is only done on Tuesdays. The records will be mailed to you or the requesting physician by this outside service. Records can not be sent to other facilities by phone request. You must come to our office and sign a release for your records to be sent to other offices. This is a law! No exceptions! Emergency requests will be handled on a case-by case basis.
