Fees for Services

With the initiation of the student health fee, some services are offered to all students at no cost.

Covered Under Student Health Fee

  1. Treatment of all illness and injuries. Any treatments, procedures, medications or testing will be charged to the student at a nominal fee.
  2. Blood glucose screening based on the presentation of symptoms which warrant the test.
  3. Basic first aid supplies and services.
  4. Uncomplicated suturing, stapling as well as suture and staple removal. The cost of the suture or stapling kit will be charged to the student. 
  5. Referrals to community agencies and services as appropriate using an established network.
  6. Maintenance of health records, retrieval of health data from record and forward to other providers as requested by student.
  7. Provision of health educational programs, internet health information resources/materials, video resources, and literature on a variety of health related topics.
  8. Provision of basic/initial health counseling (smoking cessation, diet, weight loss, stress management). Referrals will be made at no cost as indicated.
  9. Wellness counseling and counseling for personal problems with referrals to UTC Counseling Center as appropriate. For those problems outside the scope of the counseling center, the student will be referred to the appropriate agency.
  10. Blood pressure monitoring, weight checks and required counseling based on findings.
  11. Administration of allergy injections (with physician orders and serum provided by student). 
  12. Administration of immunizations – the student is responsible for paying for the cost of the vaccine. These include MMR, Hepatitis A Adults, Hepatitis B Adults and Pediatric formulations, tetanus and flu. Additionally TB skin tests with read will be available.
    For those females who wish to receive Gardisil, the provider will write a prescription for the student and she may bring the immunization back for administration at no fee.
  13. Student friendly billing of services not covered in the above.  Services will be provided to the students without delay related to obtaining insurance information.

Services Not Covered Under Student Health Fee

The UTC Student Health Center will not turn any student away based on ability to pay. For those services for which there is a fee it will be a nominal charge. View the fee schedule for students.

For those students who require extensive lab services, the student will be billed directly by the lab. The prices of the tests are determined by the lab, but UTC Student Health Center will utilize the lab which has the most competitive pricing.

Common tests which will be sent to local labs include:

  • Pap Smear (thin prep)
  • Chlamydia screening
  • HPV
  • RPR (syphilis)
  • Herpes Typing I or II
  • Gonorrhea
  • Complete Blood Count
  • Comprehensive and Basic Metabolic Panel
  • Cholesterol
  • Hemoglobin A1C
  • Thyroid Panel
  • Serum Pregnancy Test

Some tests will be run in the clinic. The Student Health Center web site will post prices for these tests as soon as the information is available.

  • Hemacult card
  • In home Hemacult testing (3 cards)
  • Urine Pregnancy test
  • Urinalysis
  • Rapid Strep
  • Glucose Finger Stick

Procedures/Costs Not Covered by the Student Health Fee

For any procedure that is administered at UTC Student Health the student will be billed only for the cost of supplies. Some of these procedures include:

  • Rehydration with IV fluid
  • Inhalation treatment with medication
  • Suturing/ Stapling                                                           
  • Wart Removal                        

Physical Exams

If the student requires a physical exam either for participation in a program offered by UTC or for employment, the cost of the exam will be $35. If lab is required, either on site or if an outside lab is required, the student will pay for those costs.

Insurance

The Student Health Center does not accept health insurance. No patient will ever be turned away based on ability to pay. All students, faculty and staff will be able to access the basic student health services at no cost. However, some services such as basic lab, medications, treatments and procedures will be billed to the student, faculty or staff member for a nominal fee. Physical exams for entry into UTC programs or for employment will also be available for a nominal fee. Any outside lab that is required as a result of an office visit will be billed directly to the student.  

Lab

The center will provide a minimum proficiency CLIA-waived lab. Any lab work that is required for the continuation of patient care will be sent to a local lab for processing. Either of these tests will be the student’s responsibility.
