Narrative:

The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga (UTC) defines and publishes all requirements for its graduate programs.  The online Graduate Catalogis the principal tool for informing prospective and current students of admission and programmatic requirements.  Websites for the Graduate School and individual graduate programs are another venue for publication of admission and program standards.  Recruitment materials such as the Graduate School brochure and program flyers also have information regarding admission and program requirements. For example, these fliers from the MBA and the MS in Mathematics demonstrate one method for publishing the requirements for graduate programs.

The Graduate Catalog identifies the required courses for each graduate degree program. For example, core, elective, and capstone courses are listed on page 57 of the catalog for the Master of Science in Criminal Justice. For some programs, such as the M.S.N. in Nurse Anesthesia, model degree plans provide information to applicants and students about what the typical course of study would involve. Program web pages for the M.A. English, M.S. Athletic Training, D.P.T., and Ph.D. Computational Engineering each offer a sample course of study for that degree.

Admission and degree requirements comply with the best practice standards of graduate education.  Reference materials from the Council of Graduate Schools, Conference of Southern Graduate Schools, and the Tennessee Conference of Graduate Schools are used to review and evaluate policy and procedures for overall graduate education management.   Program specific practices are assessed via national accrediting reviews where possible and THEC review for the programs that do not have a national accrediting body.
