REGISTRATION
Online
The Secure ID (SID) is required to register for classes. Students must login to their MocsNet account to register. The registration program (enroll) is located in the School Information link in the MocsNet Account. Advisers provide students with their advisement code that is required to register online. The advisement code is required to register or add classes through the online registration system. No advisement code is necessary to drop a class or change sections of the same course.

In Person
Students may register by presenting the appropriately signed form to one of the designated campus locations. Once the student has met with his or her advisor and taken appropriate placement tests, if required, and has no holds (unpaid parking tickets, fines, etc.), the student may register for classes.

Students may bring an advisor-signed registration form to one of the following sites:
Records Office, 109 Race Hall, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Graduate School, 103 Race Hall, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Adult Services, 278 University Center, Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Friday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Saturday, 10 a.m. to noon

Priority Registration
Priority registration for Fall 2008 begins March 31, 2008, and ends April 11, 2008. Undergraduate students may register at their designated registration appointment time or anytime thereafter. Currently enrolled students may access the registration appointment time via their MocsNet account.

Open Registration
Students who do not register during priority registration or readmitted students not currently enrolled during Spring 2008 may register during open registration beginning April 14, 2008, if no financial or other holds prevent them from doing so.

Holds
Students may have holds that will prevent them from registering. The holds may include parking tickets, accounts receivable balances, and inoculation documentation. All holds must be cleared before a student can register.

Drop/Add/Cancel Registration Dates

Closed Classes
If a class is closed, the student should request an alternate class or section. If an alternate class or section is not available or practical, the student should go to the department offering the closed class to request permission from the head of the department to register in the closed class. If permission is granted, the department head or designee will allow registration through the online process and the student may register through his/her MocsNet account, provided that the student has no financial or other holds. All holds must be cleared before the registration can be processed. The student may also bring a closed class form, signed by the appropriate department head, to the Records Office, to the Graduate School for graduate students, or to the Adult Services Center for non-traditional students to be processed.

Maximum Hours
Undergraduate students are classified full-time with an enrollment of 12 hours. The maximum number of hours an undergraduate student may register for is 20 hours. A schedule of over 20 hours is not permitted unless the student has obtained advance approval of the Faculty Petitions Committee. Students requesting to exceed the registration limit must submit petitions to the Records Office, 109 Race Hall, no later than the first day of classes for the semester. Graduate students are classified full-time with nine hours of graduate courses. Graduate students may register for a maximum of 15 hours. The Tennessee Department of Education will not accept over six hours of graduate credit in a given term from an individual who is working full-time as a teacher. Graduate students who want to register for more than 15 hours should obtain prior approval from the Director of the Graduate School.

Freshman Registration for 300-400 Level Classes
Freshmen (0-23 earned hours) who need to take 300 or 400 level courses must complete an "Eligible to Register for Upper-Level Course" form -- available in the Records Office and the Adult Services Center (for non-traditional students) -- and have it signed by the appropriate department head prior to registering for the course.

Prerequisite Standards
Students may be dropped involuntarily from courses for which they do not have the required prerequisites. Class standing (senior, junior, etc.) is also considered a prerequisite.

Transfer Students
The catalog in effect at the time of entry to UTC will be used to determine degree requirements if the degree is conferred within 10 years. Transfer students may elect to change to the catalog in effect at the time of their first entry into a college, provided that the UTC degree is conferred within 10 years of their first entry.

Cancelled Classes
The University reserves the right to cancel, postpone, change time, or combine classes when necessary.

Off-Campus Courses
The Division of Continuing Education coordinates off-campus academic credit programs for UTC. Regular UTC campus courses are also offered at select off-campus locations in order to extend the walls of the University to people who cannot easily come to the campus on a regular basis. For questions regarding registration and course beginning dates, call Tonya Botts in the UTC Division of Continuing Education at (423) 425-4344.
