Avon Foundation Seeks Applications for Healthy College Dating Peer Educator Program
- The Avon Foundation for Women has released the m.powerment by mark 2010 RFP for the Healthy Relationship Peer Educator Program. The foundation has developed a comprehensive and need-based philanthropic strategy for this program that recognizes the importance of peer-to-peer education about healthy dating relationships among college-age people.
Twenty grants of up to $10,000 will be provided to colleges wishing to establish a network of Dating Peer Educators on their campuses. Funding may be used to cover the cost of a -trainer education program, printed materials and education sessions.
Dating peer educators should be trained to provide preventive education related to dating abuse and violence, sexual assault, harassment, stalking, and the promotion of healthy relationships; and should also be trained to provide local resources and referrals to local community-based DV experts. Student programs should emphasize awareness and prevention through education.
Applications should demonstrate the ability to initiate or expand on the work of the Dating Peer Educator Program and to garner additional support.
Applicants must be U.S.-based colleges or 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations.

Literature Fellowships in Fiction and Creative Non-Fiction
- The National Endowment for the Arts is now soliciting applications for the Literature Fellowships in Fiction and Creative Non-Fiction grant program. This program offers $25,000 fellowships to creative writers that enable the recipients to set aside time for writing, research, travel, and general career advancement. Applications are reviewed through an anonymous process in which the only criteria for review are artistic excellence and artistic merit.
- Eligibility to apply is limited to published creative writers. You are eligible to apply in Fiction if, between January 1, 2004, and March 3, 2011, you have had published: • At least five different short stories, works of short fiction, or excerpts from novels in two or more literary journals, anthologies, or publications which regularly include fiction as a portion of their format; or • A volume of short fiction or a collection of short stories; or • A novel or novella. You are eligible to apply in Creative Nonfiction if, between January 1, 2004, and March 3, 2011, you have had published: • At least five different creative essays (such as personal essays, memoirs, etc.) in two or more literary journals, anthologies, or publications; or • A volume of creative nonfiction. An individual may submit only one application per year. Multiple applications will be deemed ineligible. You may not apply for a Literature Fellowship (in fiction, creative nonfiction, or poetry) and a Translation Fellowship in the same year.

- Awards fellowships to scholars and other researchers for research in its collections in the fields of women's history, spirituality and health, religious studies, 19th-century history, architecture, and journalism. Eligible applicants include doctoral and postdoctoral scholars, faculty members, independent researchers, and graduate students. Fellowships are available for up to eight weeks. Fellowship awards are based on "scholar weeks" and are offered in the amount of $700 per scholar week.

Research Fellowships
- Supports scholarly research projects in all areas of the humanities. Priority, however, will be given to proposals that concentrate on the centers collections (major emphasis is on the study of literature and culture of the U.S., Great Britain and France) and that require substantial on-site use of them. Approximately 50 fellowships will be awarded. Fellowships range from one to four months, with stipends of $3,000/month each. Also available are travel stipends of $1,200-$1,700 each, and dissertation fellowships with stipends of $1,500 each.

- CDI seeks ambitious, transformative, multidisciplinary research proposals within or across the following three thematic areas:
- From Data to Knowledge: enhancing human cognition and generating new knowledge from a wealth of heterogeneous digital data;
- Understanding Complexity in Natural, Built, and Social Systems: deriving fundamental insights on systems comprising multiple interacting elements; and
- Virtual Organizations: enhancing discovery and innovation by bringing people and resources together across institutional, geographical and cultural boundaries.
- Two types of CDI awards will be supported as a result of the FY 2011 CDI competition:
- Type I awards will require efforts up to a level roughly comparable to: summer support for two investigators with complementary expertise; two graduate students; and their collective research needs (e.g. materials, supplies, travel) for three years.
- Type II awards will require larger (than Type I) efforts up to a level roughly comparable to: summer support for three investigators with complementary expertise; three graduate students; one or two senior personnel (including post-doctoral researchers and staff); and their collective research needs (e.g. materials, supplies, travel) for four years. The integrative contributions of the Type II team should clearly be greater than the sum of the contributions of each individual member of the team.

- Notice seeking proposals to enable a world-leading system of engineering education, equally open and available to all members of society, that dynamically and rapidly adapts to meet the changing needs of society and the nation's economy.

STEM Scholarship Program
- The U.S. Department of Defense has established the Science, Mathematics, and Research for Transformation (SMART) Scholarship for Service Program to support undergraduate and graduate students pursuing degrees in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) disciplines.
- Applicants must meet these eligibility criteria:
- Hold U.S. citizenship;
- Be at least 18 years of age as of August 1, 2011;
- Be able to participate in summer internships at Defense Department laboratories,
- Be willing to accept postgraduate employment with the Defense Department;
- Be a student in good standing with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale; and
- Be pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in an eligible discipline. Undergraduate students must currently be enrolled, and graduate students may be enrolled or awaiting admission.
- Scholarships provide full tuition and education related fees, cash awards of $25,000 to $41,000, paid summer internships, a health insurance reimbursement allowance, a book allowance of $1,000 per academic year, mentoring, and employment placement after graduation.
- Deadline: Applications are due by December 1, 2010.
