Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing (09/29/08)

  • Small Grants Research Program: Supports research contributing to the advancement of nursing. Applicants must be registered nurses who hold a master's or doctoral degree or are enrolled in a doctoral program. There is a preference for applications from novice researchers who have received no other national research funds as well as for Sigma Theta Tau members. Approximately 10-15 Small Grants of up to $5,000 each are given annually.

James McKeen Cattell Fund (09/29/08)

  • Supplemental Sabbatical Awards for Psychologists: Program supplements sabbatical allowances to enable psychologists to take a full year of leave. Both tenured faculty members and associate professors who are in tenure-track positions and are eligible for sabbaticals may apply. Preference is given to psychologists who have not had a leave in the past five years. Maximum award is $35,000 or half of the recipient's salary.

  • Fellowship Programs : Supports three fellowship programs: AERA-AIR Fellows Program offers up to $100K over two years to researchers with recent doctoral degrees to work in large-scale research environments; AERA-ETS Fellowship Program in Measurement offers up to $100K over two years to researchers with recent doctoral degrees to receive training in measurement, psychometrics, and assessment; and Minority Fellowship Program offers $12K stipend and $1K travel support for one year to doctoral students from underrepresented groups.

  • Grant Program in Nutrition (Education, Training, and Research): Supports education, training, and research projects in the area of human nutrition. Priorities include: relevant nutritional research, nutritional education and training for new and expectant mothers, training for nutritional educators and trainers, dissemination. Limited funding is available for emergency hunger and malnutrition problems. PIs from academic institutions must be full-time tenured or tenure-track faculty members. Applications must be submitted online. Proposals received after the cited target date will be considered the following year.

  • Research Grants : Supports specific nutrition-related interventions to improve infant health & development from first year before birth to age three. Projects should have a specific nutrition focus with defined outcome parameters. Preference given to projects with national or regional impact that are sufficiently focused to make a difference in field of interest. Awards range from $50,000 - $1 million. Deadlines refer to required LOIs; full proposals due 2/15 and 8/15 by invitation only.

Foundation for Financial Literacy (09/26/08)

  • Grant Program (Financial Literacy Education): Supports financial literacy education throughout the world. Eligibility limited to groups or organizations, including colleges & universities, in any country whose primary area of interest is providing financial education & literacy programs for varied age groups. Activities include: financial education in schools, grassroots & home programs, workshops, etc. Priority is for proposals that address underserved children through mentoring & underserved women's groups.

Righteous Persons Foundation (09/26/08)

  • Grant Program: Founded by filmmaker Steven Spielberg, RPF provides organizations with funding to help further ideals that are important to the Jewish community. RPF currently funds projects in the U.S. that are national in scope and/or can serve as models. IHEs can apply especially in partnership with a Jewish organization. However, RPF will not fund academic projects. Up to $2 million per year may be available to fund 30 projects. Projects must address at least one of RPF's priorities. Deadlines refer to required LOIs.

Society for Human Resource Management Foundation (09/26/08)

  • Research Grants: SHRM is the world's largest association devoted to human resource management. Supports high impact HR research, whether the focus is on addressing current challenges or understanding emerging trends. Grant must be for original rigorous empirical academic research projects that advance the HR profession or have clear applicability for HR practice. More funding available than previous years. Awards up to $200K.

Society for Research in Child Development (09/26/08)

  • Policy Fellowships : Supports two fellowship programs for child development researchers. Congressional Fellowships (support for 1 year as an assistant to the staff of a congressional committee); & Executive Branch Fellowships (support in Washington to work directly with federal agencies regarding children & family policies). Fellows must have an interest in impacting the way child development research informs public policy. Eligibility is limited to SRCD members with a doctoral degree.

American Political Science Association (09/26/08)

  • Congressional Fellowship Program: Supports early- to mid-career political scientists for nine-month internship assignments in Congressional offices. Eligible applicants include political scientists who have either completed (within the last 15 years) or are nearing completion of the Ph.D. Program also supports journalists with a B.A. & two-10 years of full-time experience in their field. Fellows will receive a stipend of $38,000, plus a small travel allowance. Deadline is December 1, 2008.

East European Studies (09/24/08)

  • Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars: EES supports research on Eastern & Southeast Europe, or projects that can be linked to issues in the Western Balkans. Research Grants provide 3-4 months of support for new researchers or for scholars whose careers have been interrupted or delayed (12/1). The Junior Scholars' Training Seminar Program supports junior scholars to attend a seminar in Washington (4/14). Short Term Grants allow scholars residency for one month to use the library, archival and other resources (3/1, 6/1, 9/1, 12/1).

  • Grants and Fellowships for Eurasian and East European Research: Supports humanities & social science policy research on Russian, Eurasian & East European social, political, economic, & historical development. National Research Competition & Collaborative Humanities Research Fellowship (2/13) supports collaborative & individual research.   • Visiting Fellowship in Irish Studies: Visiting Fellowships support four months at National University of Ireland-Galway for faculty scholars in Irish Studies. Fellow must give one faculty seminar on their research, be available to consult postgraduates, and provide a brief report. Fellowships include: stipend of $13,000, travel support, office accommodation, and other privileges appropriate to the status of a faculty member.

  • Humane Studies Fellowships: Awards fellowships of up to $12,000 for a year to support the research of undergrad & grad students from a libertarian perspective that will contribute to advancing a free society. Areas of interest include: volunteerism, individual rights, free trade, market economics, & migration & peace.   • Research Fellowships in Humanities (Predoctoral and Postdoctoral): Supports over 100 short-term & long-term awards per year for scholars in most areas of the humanities, including American studies, law, and the history of science, for research in residence at the Huntington Library for various lengths of time and with varied stipends. The Huntington is an independent research center with holdings in British and American history, literature, art history, the history of science and medicine.

  • Berlin Program for Advanced German & European Studies: Supports 12 months of comparative & interdisciplinary study in the economic, political & social aspects of modern & contemporary German & European affairs at Freie Universitat in Berlin. Program supports anthropologists, economists, political scientists, & scholars in other fields. At the dissertation level, applicants must have completed all requirements (except the dissertation) for the Ph.D. At the postdoctoral level, applicants must have received the Ph.D. degree in the last two years.   • HRSA Innovative Nursing Education Technologies Grants: Arising from suggestions from the Senate Appropriations Committee that HRSA incorporate innovative methods to increase the number of trained nurses, the program will sponsor the use of new technologies, including distance-learning, and competency-based methodologies in addressing, on a regional level, institutional capacity for educating the nursing workforce.  As always, preference will be given to applicants whose projects substantially benefit rural or underserved populations or help meet public health nursing needs in state or local health departments.

  • Office of Elementary and Secondary Education: Notice seeking comments on a proposed study to investigate the technology experiences included in pre-service teacher preparation programs, as well as how teachers use technology in the classroom. A three-phase grounded theory research design will employ educational technology faculty and general induction teacher surveys, educational technology faculty and accomplished technology-using teacher phone interviews, and case studies of teacher education programs and accomplished technology-using teachers.

  • Enduring Questions: Pilot Course Grants: Notice seeking applications for new humanities courses to encourage faculty and students at the undergraduate level to grapple with the most fundamental concerns of the humanities, and to join together in deep, sustained programs of reading in order to encounter influential thinkers over the centuries and into the present day. Enduring questions are questions to which no discipline or field or profession can lay an exclusive claim.

  • Japan Program: JSPS Fellowship which offers pre & postdoctoral fellowships in social sciences & humanities for long-term (12-24 months) or short-term (15 days to 11 months) research in Japan (ddln 12/1); and Abe Fellowships for multidisciplinary research on contemporary and policy-relevant topics(ddln 9/1).

The Witter Bynner Foundation for Poetry (09/22/08)

  • Grants for Poetry-Related Projects: Organizations may apply for grant support from $1,000 to $10,000 for a max of three years for projects in the following areas: individual poets(selected by the Poet Laureate); developing the poetry audience; translation of poetry from languages not currently available to English readers; & the uses of poetry (dramatic, ed, therapeutic, etc.). Preference goes to applications for seed money. LOIs are accepted from 8/1-12/1 each year. Foundation will invite full proposals.
