UTC Campus Culture and Fun Facts

MOCS Card (Photo IDs)
Photo ID cards can be obtained from the MOCS Card Office, 1st floor of the University Center.  The MOCS Card Office is generally open 8:00 am - 5:00 pm, Monday - Friday.  Hours may vary during the summer.

Time Zone
Chattanooga is in the Eastern Time Zone.
Nashville and Birmingham are in Central Time Zone
Atlanta and Knoxville are in Eastern Time Zone.

Departments have departmental mail codes specific for their areas.  Check with your department for your specific code.  In addition, some items may need a specific building delivery address.

UTC Academic Schedule

UTC operates on the semester system, with each semester running approximately 15 weeks in length. The summer semester consists for three sessions: two short (6 week in length) and one long session (~ 13 weeks).

Always check the schedule of classes and the current academic calendar for specific semester dates.

Fall Break usually occurs in mid-October and usually lasts for two days.  The Wednesday before Thanksgiving is usually included in a Thanksgiving break. Spring Break generally occurs during mid-March and lasts for one full week.

Grades and Grade Processing

Grades are submitted electronically through the student information system (log on through MyMocsNet).  It is very important that you submit your grades on time! Not submitting your grades on time can keep some students from graduating.

Campus Parking

Parking is strictly enforced on the UTC campus.  Parking is particularly tight during the "prime" class times between 9:00 am - 2:00 pm.

A hang tag is required to park (either general or reserved lots).  Parking hang tags can be obtained through Parking Services, located in the Administrative Services Building on Palmetto Street.  Faculty can arrange to purchase hang tags for an entire year, paid through payroll deduction.

Email

Faculty are assigned email accounts upon their addition to the payroll system.  To check your email user name and password, see https://secure.utc.edu/pw/forgot.php

Copying

Graphic and Mail Services is located in the Administrative Services Building and in the Lupton Library.  Call x4092 for more information.

Telephones

Telephones are maintained by on campus personnel.
