VISION CARE
There are several ways regular employees may receive a discount on vision exams and eyeglasses or contact lenses.
- All regular employees are automatically enrolled in the Tennessee Dental Plan at no cost to the employee. This is not dental insurance, but a program providing discounts for Dental, Vision, Hearing, Massage Therapy and Prescription Drugs. The TDP website lists providers and information for each segment of the program. Contact the Office of Human Resources for a membership card.
- PPO Blue Cross/Blue Shield subscribers:
Examinations and screening of the eyes as determined by Blue Cross/Blue Shield of TN to be medically necessary in the treatment of an injury or disease are covered. Refractive examinations to determine the need for glasses or contacts are not considered vision screenings and are not covered by the plan. - POS Cigna subscribers:
An annual exam with a Vision Service Plan provider will be covered for a $10 copay. Phone 1-800-877-7195 or view the website for a listing of contracted providers.

HMO United HealthCare subscribers:
Effective January 1, 2008, United HealthCare participants wanting to obtain vision benefits must obtain eye exams from a Spectera Vision provider. Phone 1-800-638-3120 for a participating provider or view the Spectera Vision website at www.spectera.com , using your Social Security number as the ID. You must use an approved provider to receive benefits. If you do not use an approved provider, the patient will responsible for all charges.
