NURS 543 Advanced Anatomy/Physiology Nurse Anesthesia II .....3 credit hours

A continuation of N542. An in-depth, concise and current presentation of those aspects of anatomy and physiology which are relevant to the anesthetic management of clients. Includes mechanisms of shock and the systems of endocrine, genitourinary/renal, neurological, metabolic/gastrointestinal and hepatic. Allows the student to gain an increased knowledge base for use in analyzing, evaluation and utilizing anatomy and physiology in anesthesia.

NURS 544 Integrated Sciences for Nurse Anesthesia .....3 credit hours

Provides the nurse anesthesia students with an in-depth, concise and current presentation of those aspects of chemistry and physics which are applicable to human physiology and the equipment/environment directly associated with anesthesia patient care. NURS 547 Nurse Anesthesia Practicum and Seminar .....8 credit hours

Clinical application of knowledge and skills necessary for safe administration of anesthesia. Students assume increasing responsibility for the independent delivery of anesthesia care as they progress. Schedule may vary from academic calendar.

Credit Hours Taken in Residence
30-39 credit hours

NOTE: Thirty hours is the minimum number of hours that can be taken to receive a certificate. It is highly likely that some students will have taken the equivalent of NURS 583, 584, 580, and 504, potentially reducing the number of hours taken in residence to as few as 30 credit hours, while still meeting the requirements for certification as a CRNA by the national association. Because of small numbers in this option anticipated, it is likely that NURS 541 professional Aspects of Nurse Anesthesia may be delivered as an individual study for these students on an as-needed basis. The maximum number of hours needed to receive a certificate is 39 hours.

Admission Requirements

  • Must meet all entry criteria for admission to the MSN program.
