Purpose

The Graduate Council is responsible for providing and periodically revising basic educational philosophy for graduate programs, for ensuring the maintenance of high standards in the graduate programs offered, and for proposing and recommending to the Faculty Council new graduate programs.  The Graduate Council reviews new courses to be offered for graduate credit as well as other changes in the content and sequence of individual graduate programs.  The Graduate Council is responsible for ensuring that general admission policies as established by the Board of Trustees and specific policies approved for individual Graduate Council programs are maintained.  The Graduate Council hears graduate students' petitions and grade appeals.  The Graduate Council reports its curriculum and standard actions to the Faculty Council with recommendations for implementation or appropriate disposition.

Membership

Three (3) elected representatives from Business and four (4) for Education; one (1) elected representative from each of the other academic programs offering a graduate degree; and two (2) at-large representatives elected by and from the Faculty Council from departments which do not offer graduate degrees. Members of Graduate Council serve a one-year term and are elected at the conclusion of the spring semester for a term of office beginning the following September 1. At the first meeting on or after September 1, the Graduate Council will elect a chair from among the voting members who represent one of the graduate programs. Ex officio: Dean, The Graduate School, the University Librarian, and the President of the Graduate Student Association.
