How can I maintain my HOPE Scholarship?

  • At the end of the first 24 attempted TELS hours, the student must have a 2.75 cumulative TELS GPA.
  • Effective fall 2008, the student must have a 2.75 cumulative TELS GPA at the the 48 hour check point. This checkpoint previously required a 3.0 cumulative TELS GPA.
  • Students at the 72 hour benchmark and every 24 attempted TELS hours after will be able to retain the award in one of two ways:
    • Maintain a cumulative TELS GPA of 3.0 or above (traditional method). Eligibility will be reviewed at the next 24 hours attempted.
    • Maintain a cumulative TELS GPA of 2.75 – 2.99 and 3.0 semester GPA (provisional method). Students regaining the scholarship under the provisional method must be enrolled full time. Eligibility will be reviewed at the end of each semester.
    • Must maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress AND continuous enrollment.
    • Scholarship is terminated after attainment of Baccalaureate Degree OR 5 years have passed from initial enrollment - whichever occurs first.
    • Be enrolled in at least 6 hours; 12 hours if eligible on provisional basis.

How can I appeal my HOPE Scholarship?

There are two different processes of attempting to have your HOPE Scholarship reinstated. The first is the appeal process listed under section A and requires submission of the TELS Appeal Form. The second process is listed under section B and requires submission of the TELS Reinstatement Request Form. Be certain that you submit the correct form for your situation.

Section A: Appeal for Extreme Circumstances

Only under extreme circumstances can you immediately appeal the loss of your HOPE Scholarship. This form must be submitted within the first two weeks of the semester following the notification of loss of eligibility. Dropping below the minimum hourly requirement is NOT grounds for appeal. Section B: Reinstatement Request

Your HOPE Scholarship may also be regained under the one-time only Repeat or Academic Achievement Options. These requests can be submitted at the end of the semester the TELS attempted hour checkpoint (24, 48, 72, and 96) has been reached. Remember, the cumulative TELS GPA at 24 and 48 attempted hours must be 2.75.

In order to regain the HOPE Scholarship by choosing the one-time only Repeat Option, the repeat course must be taken before the attempted hour checkpoint has been reached. After the repeat has been applied and you have the required cumulative TELS GPA, your scholarship will be awarded the following semester. Click here to access the TELS Reinstatement Request Form.

OR

In order to regain the HOPE Scholarship by choosing the one-time-only Academic Achievement Option, you must be at the next TELS attempted hour checkpoint (24, 48, 72, or 96 attempted hours) before receiving the award. For example, if you lost your scholarship at the 24 attempted hour checkpoint due to TELS GPA, you can regain the scholarship the semester after you have reached the 48 attempted hour checkpoint. However, you must have a 2.75 TELS GPA. Click here to access the TELS Reinstatement Request Form.
