The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga Police Department thanks you for visiting our web site and taking some time to understand us. We are a full service law enforcement agency with state certified officers. UTC Police have complete police authority to apprehend and arrest anyone involved in illegal acts on campus and areas immediately adjacent to the campus. If minor offenses involving University rules and regulations are committed by a University student, the campus police may also refer the individual to the disciplinary division of Student Development. Major offenses such as rape, murder, aggravated assault, robbery, and auto theft are reported to the local police and joint investigative efforts with investigators from UTC Police and the Chattanooga Police are deployed to solve these serious crimes. The prosecution of all criminal offenses, both felony and misdemeanor, are conducted at Municipal, General Sessions, or Federal Court of Hamilton County. The department's main objective is to provide a safe campus for students, staff, faculty and visitors. We believe that to accomplish this we must not only enforce the law, but we must also educate the members of our community on ways that they can reduce their risk of becoming a victim of crime. A safe campus can only be achieved through the cooperation of the entire University community including students, faculty, and staff. We are motivated by customer service and professionalism, and enjoy the rich diversity of our campus.
Recently, we have made many changes to our web site and the services we offer on these pages. Please take some time to view these enhancements. We encourage your feedback, so that we may continue to improve our service. Should you need any further assistance use the contact information below.
For emergencies call 4357 on campus or 911.
You may report suspicious or criminal activity or other emergencies by
dialing the Campus Police at ext. 4357 or HELP (when off-campus dial 425-
4357). Additionally, the University has instituted an emergency 911 system
campus wide. In an emergency situation you can reach the Campus Police by
dialing 911 from any campus telephone. Your location automatically registers on a computer console in the UTCPD dispatcher's office, so that help can be dispatched
immediately. We also recommend that you program your cellular telephone to the UTC Police Department at (423) 425-4357. You may also call 911 from your cell phone but calling 4357 often results in a faster response as our officers are closer. 911 calls that are not a campus phone will be processed through the Chattanooga city 911 system.
