Student Summary of the Co-op Process

  1. Contact the Co-op Office to make an appointment.

  2. Meet with assigned co-op coordinator and find out about the co-op program.
  3. Your co-op coordinator will give you the instructions needed to log in to UTC' s PlacePro system (web-based resume and job system). (Note: The PlacePro system will not allow you to log in until you have met with your co-op coordinator.) Put together your personal file within PlacePro by completing the PlacePro forms and student agreement as well as uploading your resume into the system. (PlacePro also gives you the capability to create an online portfolio, which could include writing samples, artwork, or any other electronic representations of your talents, skills, or expertise.) Once you have completed your PlacePro file and uploaded your resume, contact your co-op coordinator so that he/she can review and approve your resume. Once your resume is approved, you will be given access to the PlacePro job database.
  4. Review current job descriptions, research internship and co-op job interests, and stay current by checking for new jobs in PlacePo and by keeping in contact with your co-op coordinator.
  5. Contact the co-op coordinator when interested in applying for a particular job.
  6. The co-op coordinator submits your application materials to the employer(s).
  7. The employer or the Co-op Office will contact you if the employer is interested in setting up an interview. (Your interview may be on the phone, on campus, or at the work site.)
  8. After the interview, send thank you notes to your interviewers.
  9. The employer will contact you and let you know the outcome of the interview.
  10. If you are made a job offer, you should let employers know your decision within three days.
  11. Once offered a position, contact the Co-op Office and let your coordinator know that you have gotten a job. Provide your coordinator with your supervisor's name and contact information. Also, provide other requested information about your job, your current address, etc.
  12. Sign up for the co-op work experience course-Co-op 001.
  13. If you will be an alternating co-op student or full-time intern, contact UTC Financial Aid and the UTC Housing Office to make any necessary arrangements.
  14. Go to work.
  15. Contact the Co-op Office with any questions or problems.
  16. In 2nd or 3rd month of your job, contact your co-op coordinator to set up a work site visit.
  17. Submit a work report to the Co-op Office by Reading Day each semester that you work.
