Employer Summary of the Co-op Process

  1. EMPLOYER: Contact the UTC Co-op Office and complete the "Job Request Form." This form requests job description, pay rate, deadlines, contact information, etc. Send any company literature or videos that you would like us to share with students.
  2. UTC CO-OP OFFICE: The UTC Co-op Office will share your job description(s) with qualified students. Students review the job descriptions and decide whether to apply for available positions. The Office will then send resumes and transcripts for all students interested in applying.
  3. EMPLOYER: Review the resumes and contact the UTC Co-op Office or the students directly to set up interviews or gather more information.
  4. EMPOYER: If desired, interview students. You are welcome to interview on the UTC campus. If so, contact the Co-op Office to make arrangements. (We recommend that you make an offer within two weeks of the interview.) Contact all applicants and let them know the results of the interviews.
  5. EMPLOYER: Provide the hired student with a formal offer letter.
  6. EMPLOYER: Let the Co-op Office know if you have hired a student or have filled a position.
  7. EMPLOYER: Prepare for the newly hired student well in advance: select appropriate supervisor, plan for good work assignments.
  8. EMPLOYER: Provide a thorough orientation for the student.
  9. EMPLOYER: Contact the Co-op Office if you have questions or concerns.
  10. UTC CO-OP OFFICE: The student's co-op coordinator will make a work site visit at least once while the student is working. The Co-op Office asks the student to arrange a time for the co-op coordinator to meet with both the student and the co-op/intern supervisor.
  11. EMPLOYER: Complete the student evaluation mailed to you at the end of each summer or semester.
  12. UTC CO-OP OFFICE: The Co-op Office will assign the working student a grade (Unsatisfactory or Satisfactory) at the end of each semester or summer. This grade is based upon the employer's evaluation of the student, a student work report, and the work site visit.
The Co-op Office will send a copy of your student's latest grades to you each semester.
  13. UTC CO-OP OFFICE: The Co-op Office will also send you a job survey each semester. If you have any job hiring needs, complete the form and return to the Co-op Office.
  14. EMPLOYER: Inform the Co-op Office of any changes in your co-op or intern program: co-op coordinator/supervisor changes, co-op positions eliminated or added, etc.
