A Letter from Chancellor Brown (March 8, 2010)
Dear Colleagues,
Next week is Spring Break for our students, and after that, we will be in the homestretch to end another academic year.
As you are aware, over the past few months we have been preparing to upgrade our student information system. A team representing offices and disciplines across the campus has quietly been working to ensure a successful and effective transition period. Your participation and patience will be essential.
You are probably more familiar with this effort as the Banner Project, but Banner is just a part of the system improvements. We want you to begin thinking of this entire system upgrade as My MocsNet.
Earlier this semester more than 500 students and 100 faculty and staff members participated in a simulated Mocmester. To test our system, students registered for classes and faculty members submitted grades in a two-day period. The exercise was a tremendous success. Much progress has been made on the project. Students applying for admission for fall 2010 are already using the new system as are current students on financial aid.
The simulation time is over, and each of us must now get ready for the new system.
The most immediate need is for all faculty members who serve as academic advisers to complete the orientation on the new system. If you have not already done so, schedule an orientation time by contacting Diane-Welch@utc.edu or calling 425-2909. Registration for fall 2010 will use the new system and the new schedule of classes, and it is imperative that advisers be prepared to help students with the process.
For those of you who access MocsNet from the UTC homepage, you will see a change in the log in process next week. In the coming months, we will see a new campus intranet and portal system come on line along with new and improved access to information and on-line services.
This is an exciting time of changes and improvements. The transition might be challenging at times, but I have no doubt that the final product will improve operations for our students and make our professional lives easier.
Please watch for updates from the My MocsNet project and have a wonderful Spring Break.
Roger Brown
