Step Ahead Math Class
What is the Step Ahead Math Class?
- a 5.5 -day class to boost students from intermediate algebra to college algebra
- a combination of lecture, lab work and tutoring
- students will be tested at the end of the class to determine if they will be eligible to take college algebra or a more advanced math course
- college credit will NOT be earned in this class
Why should I take the class?
- to be able to take a math class that will apply to your college degree and advance to other math courses
Who is eligible?
- Only students who have submitted an online application are eligible
- new entering UTC freshmen who have ACT Math scores of 19-21
- class limited to 250 students
How do I know if I am eligible?
- ACT score of 19-21
Who will teach the class?
When is the class?
For Fall 2012:
- August 13-18, 2012 (Monday-Saturday)
- 9 a.m. - 4 p.m., Monday-Friday; 9 - 11 a.m., 1 - 2 p.m. Saturday
What is the cost?
- There is no cost for the short course. However, students who move into residence halls early will be charged $10 per night, for a total of $40. Information about these charges will be sent by the Housing Office.
When can I move in to my dorm?
FOR STUDENTS WITH A HOUSING ASSIGNMENT:
- Sunday, August 12, 2012- check in at your residence hall office, 1:00 - 5:00 p.m.
If you have temporary housing in the hotel, you may not participate in Step Ahead Math.
What about meals?
- Meal plans will be available August 13, 2012
- Students may add dollars to their MocsCard to purchase food during Step Ahead Math
- Other options will be available on campus and at nearby restaurants - information will be provided
