The syllabus is essentially a contract between students and their
instructor. Syllabi usually consist of the following information.
Basic Course Information
Course Name and Number
Meeting place, dates, and time
Instructor’s name and official title
Office Hours
Office Phone
E-mail and web page addresses
Course Description
Generally relates to what is written in the University Catalog.
Course Goals and Objectives
The information students are expected to learn in the course.
Course Calendar
What the student is expected to do and how grades will be determined.
Additional polocies such as attendance and participation requirements may be found here.
Text and Other Materials
The syllabus will list all required and recommended materials.
Grading Policy
This section show how gradew will be determined and the weight they will carry in your final course grade.
Course Policies
This section lets students know if the instructor accepts late work and what penalties may incur as a result.
Caveat
A disclaimer statement stating the syllabus is subject to change and how students may keep abreast of the changes.
